Bagwell fans again on tax hike bid

February 5, 2014

Walhalla’s mayor pro-tem has once again failed in an attempt to convince his colleagues of the need to raise taxes. A T-J Bagwell motion that came out of last night’s meeting of the city council and its department heads failed to attract a second. And Bagwell’s idea for a tiered property tax increase of two mills this year and three mills next year prompted Mayor Danny Edwards to say raising taxes is a bad idea at this time. It’s the second time since taking office two years ago that Bagwell has struck out in making a tax increase case with both the mayor and his council colleagues. But he told 96.3/WGOG NEWS before last night’s meeting that he thought now was a time to try again, as the council recently welcomed two new members—Danny Woodward and Kathy Rogers.
