Bail denied for murder defendant

December 16, 2013

It’s back to jail for an Oconee murder defendant. Judge Alex Macaulay this afternoon ruled Joshua Randall Ferguson a potential danger to the community and refused to set bail. Ferguson is accused of shooting Charles Benson Cantrell in the back on a Friday night last month near Seneca. Kelli Cantrell, Ferguson’s fiancé, described the defendant as the sole provider for her and their children and said his incarceration has created hardship for them. The defendant’s lawyer said his client had worked as a small engine mechanic. However, sheriff’s officer Will Freestate told the judge that the shooting occurred as the result of an argument that went “horribly wrong,” according to assistant solicitor Blair Stoudemire. No trial has been set.
