Bail set at $1 million

The Seneca judge this afternoon set bond at $1 million for the woman accused of confining two children to a dog house and storage building. Even if Mattie Brooks were able to make bail, she’ll have to abide by conditions imposed by Municipal Judge Danny Singleton—such as no contact with the alleged victims or any children under the age of 18. Singleton explained the reason for the high bail is the 58-year old Brooks’ criminal history. Records show she was sentenced for similar offenses in 1999. Police investigator Mike Terramano said Brooks was arrested this morning on South Walnut Street. She is charged in three warrants—alleging unlawful conduct toward a child and criminal sexual conduct first degree with a minor.
