Banners to mark King Way

Money available in a Seneca Community Development Block Grant account will determine how many banners will fly to mark S. Sixth Street as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Ed Halbig, director of community planning and development, says he has the blessings of NAACP leaders to pursue five-foot-high banners to be placed on the city’s utility poles along S. Sixth Street, instead of metallic signs. The banners will also sport an image of the late civil rights leader. Halbig is hopeful the banners will be in place in time for Black History Month in February.
