“Barely conscious and bleeding”

Two Oconee County residents have been arrested in the Sheriff’s Department investigation Friday night of an attack on a man at his home in the Tamassee Community. A deputy found a 37-year old man “barely conscious and bleeding.” The officer quoted a witness as saying two individuals used a hammer and a stick to inflict head and ear injuries while the man lay on a couch. A short distance from the Tamassee Knob Road home officers arrested two men in the woods. Nicholas Wayne Brake, 17, of Choehee Valley Road and Larry Ray Marcengill, 37, of Buddy’s Drive, Salem were charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Brake also was charged with the offense of minor in possession of alcohol. The arresting officers discovered Marcengill was injured and sent him to Oconee Medical Center for treatment before being taken to the county jail. Officers say they found a hammer and pieces of a shovel handle.
