Bat potentially exposes one person to rabies

South Carolina DHEC has referred one person to a private health care provider to talk about post-exposure treatment after being potentially exposed to a rabid bat in the Clemson area of Pickens County. The bat was found dead in a room where the person was sleeping. But there was no obvious evidence that the victim was bitten or scratched. The possible exposure occurred April 8, and the bat tested positive for rabies two days later. So far this year, there have been 42 confirmed rabies cases in animals statewide. This animal is the sixth to test positive from Pickens County.
