Bear cubs left in box

Three bear cubs found abandoned in Oconee County shortly after birth are receiving medical help elsewhere. The cubs, found inside a box left last week at the Long Creek Volunteer Fire Station, appear to be no more than four weeks old, according to a South Carolina wildlife biologist. Richard Morton, the biologist, says two of the cubs were sent to a rehabilitation facility in Tennessee, while the third has found a home in a zoo-like facility at Charleston. According to Morton, it’s mystery as to what happened. He speculates that the bear mother may have died or have been killed shortly after giving birth. Someone may have found the cubs and placed them in a box. For some reason, the box was left at the fire station.
