Bear season kind to Oconee hunters

The recent bear hunting season across Upstate South Carolina, though not a record season, proved good for the hunters.  Figures from the South Carolina DNR show that in 2015, of the 91 bears taken in Oconee, Pickens, and Greenville counties, 40 of them were taken in Oconee County.  The largest bear harvested was in Greenville County—596 pounds.  Tammy Wactor, wildlife biologist, says the numbers are higher because the bear population is greater.  Hunters found lots of bears on the move in search of their natural food supply, and bears on the move create opportunity for the hunter.
