Bitterly cold wind chills anticipated

National Weather Service is warning 96.3/WGOG land to anticipate bitterly cold wind chills across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia. We can expect this significant cold wave to last the rest of the work week. An Arctic airmass is building across the region today and will persist into Friday. Temperatures tonight and tomorrow should yield the coldest conditions since last January’s cold wave. As the case a year ago, the frigid conditions likely will freeze unprotected water pipes, damage undrained sprinkler systems, and result in a thin layer of ice on ponds and along stream banks. Possible power outages or brief power disruptions are not out of the question during periods of peak demand.
