Blackhawk chopper to rescue of injured hiker

A National Guard Blackhawk helicopter swooped in to help in the rescue yesterday of an injured hiker. Rescuers were sent to the Musterground area near the Bad Creek hydro project in Oconee County for an injured hiker three miles into remote wilderness on the Foothills Trail. The rescue party hiked an hour and a half to reach the hiker and Greenville Health System/Oconee Memorial Hospital provided immediate care until the helicopter arrived for what was described as a “hasty removal for advanced treatment.” The injured hiker was among three Upstate residents considered experienced outdoorsmen. The Blackhawk responded as a special asset from the National Guard and the state Fire Marshal’s Office. It carries specially trained fire fighters for rescue work.
