Blood drives to meet the demand

The Blood Connection is carrying out blood drives all week, to meet the demand before and after the July 4 holiday.  A bloodmobile van will set up today from noon until 4 o’clock at the OconeeMemorialHospital.  The community’s blood donation center reminds people that every two seconds, someone needs blood.  And this is a time of the year for challenges to the effort to collect blood.  High school and college age individuals, a reliable source, are on summer break and usually unavailable.  Other dedicated donors have summer plans that interrupt their regularly scheduled donations.  The heat also has an impact on donations—even though all donation centers are comfortably air-conditioned.
