Boarding home denied zoning change
The Westminster Comprehensive Plan suggests historic houses might enjoy a future use as boarding houses. But the city planning commission said no last night to Roger Manley’s request for a zoning change to allow him to operate a boarding house at 207 N. Isundega Street. Manley’s property is currently zoned R-25. He was seeking a change to general residential, a classification that would allow him to rent rooms. But six of nine people speaking at a public hearing said they want to keep the neighborhood single-family residential. Having been built around 1900, Manley’s home is considered historic. On a motion by Steve White, the planning commissioners voted 3 to 0 to deny the rezoning application. However, Chairman Wendell Tidwell said the vote is merely a recommendation and, at city level, the city council will have the final say.
