Boater education class tailored to the young

This is National Safe Boating Week, and youngsters can learn the fundamentals of safe and responsible boating during a free class next week near Seneca. All resident and non-resident boaters under 16 years of age must successfully complete a boater education class that is approved by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources before operating a personal watercraft jet ski or a boat powered by 15 hp motor or more. The class will take place 8 a-m to 1 p-m Saturday, May 30 at Foothills Community Church, Bountyland Road, Seneca. Those persons interested are requested to pre-register online at www.dnr.sc.gov (1) and clicking on the boater education icon. Each student should be on time and bring a pen or a pencil. All children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
