Bob the Orangutan to leave Greenville for Oregon

One of three orangutans from Borneo kept at the Greenville Zoo will leave next week for a new home out west. The Greenville Zoo will say good bye to Bob the Orangutan Wednesday, December 3 as he will be moved to the Oregon Zoo in Portland, Oregon where he’s to be introduced to a female orangutan. There, Bob is to be joined by Kitra, a 12-year old female from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The Greenville Zoo works directly with the Orangutan Species Survival Program, whose important roles include assurance that all orangutans are managed in a way that preserves the best possible genetic diversity. Orangutans are a unique species that are found only on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo.
