Brake issue causes freight train to emit smoke

A fire scare yesterday on the Norfolk Southern tracks between Westminster and the Georgia line.  Officials of Oconee Emergency Services say a brake issue was identified as the reason for smoke that emitted from a number of freight cars.  The westbound train was brought to halt in the vicinity of  Blue Valley Road where fire fighters and the train crew checked for hazards.  None were found and, after 30 minutes, the train proceeded on its way.
