Builder pays fine for violations in Clemson

A state “DHEC” document shows that a Pennsylvania-based homebuilder paid a fine and corrected violations at a Clemson home construction project.  Although a $16 thousand dollar penalty paid by the Rex Corporation of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania has been satisfied by the company, the item is part of a long agenda today for the governing board of the Department of Health and Environmental Control in Columbia.  “DHEC” issued an order January 14 citing the Rex Corporation as responsible for the failure to “install and maintain the necessary best management practices (BMPs) as specified in its Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPP) and allowed the discharge of sediment into the environment, including waters of the state, in a manner other than in compliance with a permit issued by the Department.”  The company was responsible for land-disturbing activities on property south of Lindsay Road near Cochran Road on the grounds of the off-campus housing project named Lofts of Clemson.
