Building owner withdraws appeal

The owner of a vacant Westminster commercial building withdrew his appeal to end a lengthy hearing last night by the city’s board of zoning appeals. William McClure, the owner of 102 W. North Avenue, put a stop to the proceeding just as it appeared the board was going to vote down his request to vary from off street parking requirements. Standing in front of Chairman Ronald Butts and the rest of the appeals board, McClure said, “I’m going to pursue other avenues at this time.” Other avenues will include the possibility that McClure will use the former business for storage. Without a variance, it appears that Richard Crowe’s hopes are dashed to convert 102 W. North Avenue to a combination business selling auto parts and bait and tackle. Over nearly 100 years, the building had a long history as a liquor store which was required to close for America’s years of Prohibition.
