By cutting expense, OMC achieves positive bottom line

Oconee Medical Center reports a positive bottom line last month. But make no mistake about it, revenues above expenses do not translate to higher income from patients. “We actually achieve it primarily by expense management,” Hunter Kome, vice president for operations explains in an interview airing today on 96.3/WGOG NEWS. Kome says the last five months of the hospital’s governing year will be more challenging, partly because the summer months are less busy. He estimates the federal sequestration triggered by the “fiscal cliff” will cost OMC about $500 thousand or more before the end of the year, September 30.
