Cain calls Oconee Michelin’s #1 location

Paul Cain says he believes Michelin still considers Oconee its preferred location for a distribution center.  Cain, chairman of Oconee County Council, told the Walhalla Rotary Club today that there remains misunderstanding about the expiration of Michelin’s option to buy Golden Corner Commerce Park property.  The company, Cain told Rotarians, was not ready to make a decision on the project when its option expired at the end of last month.  He said Michelin still considers Oconee its number one location.  Yet Cain added this, when interviewed by 101.7/WGOG NEWS:  “If we have the real estate available for Michelin, then we would love to have them here.  But we cannot stand by idly and wait for Michelin to make a decision.  We have to continue marketing this property (the GCCP) so we can get a return investment for the taxpayers, get jobs, get investment here, and continue to increase the value of the mill and increase the tax base.”
