Cain’s advice: “Don’t lose heart”

Trustees for Oconee public libraries received the following advice last night from County Councilman Paul Cain: “Don’t lose heart.” A visitor at the trustees’ meeting, Cain urged the board to not become discouraged by the defeat of last year’s referendum that would have built new libraries and renovated others. Cain said the result showed voters simply aren’t willing to pay more taxes for the various referendum projects. He said the possibility for the county to employ a grants writer may help the libraries obtain funding to meet needs. Chairman Danny Day said library leaders are putting behind them the failed November referendum. Trustee Alisa Suddeth said library supporters haven’t given up, but they are looking for a new approach.
