A water line break has forced the dismissal today at both the Westminster Elementary School and the nearby West-Oak Middle School.  City crews are on the job to find and pinpoint the break, and residents of Gaston Circle are also impacted by disruption to their service.

Westminster utility customers on Gaston Circle are affected this morning by a water line break in the vicinity of the elementary school.  City crews are attempting to locate the break and make repairs.  For the time being, however, there will be inconvenience on the part of the affected customers.

A home fire late last night in rural Oconee County.  Everyone inside the house on Acorn Drive near Schoolhouse Road escaped without injury.  Fire fighters were alerted at just before 10:30 and remained at that fire scene until 12:15 this morning.

Here are COVID-19 numbers reported yesterday by the state health agency:   1,389 new cases (11 of them in Oconee County). Statewide, DHEC confirmed 56 new deaths.  (none in Oconee, but five in neighboring Pickens County).  Of 36,030 test results received statewide, the positivity was 6.2%.

New South Carolina cases:  1,585 (21 in Oconee). 51 new deaths state statewide. Of 28,065 test results received, South Carolina positivity:  8.3%.

On today’s DHEC report:  1,585 new confirmed COVID cases in South Carolina, 21 in Oconee County.  New deaths numbered 51, including an elderly Oconeean who died February 9 and a middle-aged Oconeean who died February 13. Of a total of 27,073 test results received, the latest South Carolina positivity is 8.7%.
