In high school volleyball on Tuesday, Walhalla defeated Seneca 3-1 in the Western AAA opener. Seneca won the first set, but the Razorbacks finished with three straight for the overall win. Elsewhere, Daniel defeated West-Oak 3-0. Senior Carly Hoover led Daniel with 14 kills.

USC has landed one of the top pitchers in North Carolina for the 2014 class in lefthander Alex Destino of Weaverville. The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Destino committed to the Gamecocks last week. He picked the Gamecocks over Georgia, North Carolina and NC State.
