Cell tower vote delayed

Oconee County has decided to delay a vote on whether to vary from its zoning law to allow a cell tower in Mountain Rest—-in spite of a large turnout of support last night for the Verizon application. Josh Stephens, zoning administrator, advised the board of zoning appeals of several points on which the county requires more information—including better photograph simulations and various engineering documents. The tower would go up near highway 28 and Morehead Place Road. About 100 people attended last night’s meeting to show their support for the tower. They see it as a critical communication service for their mountain hamlet.
