Changes ahead for Oconee’s Airport

For those who fly to the Oconee Airport and then make the short drive to see a Clemson football game, changes are in store before Dabo Swinney’s highly-rated Clemson football Tigers hit the field for 2015. Sam Carver, airport director, expects a new taxiway will be in place between the runway and the terminal. A North Carolina contractor is about to start work on an FFA-funded project to construct what’s called a stab taxiway. No longer will airplane owners be allowed to use their own motor vehicles to transport between the terminal and the ramp to the runway. The airport has ordered a 6 passenger golf cart to be used instead. It’s part of Carver’s penchant for safety which he has stressed during meetings with the aeronautics commission, the policy-making board of the county’s airport.
