Chase from Oconee ends in Georgia crash

An early morning chase that started in Oconee County ended with the crash of the suspect’s car three counties away inside Georgia on I-85. And the driver of that Chevy Blazer is reported to have required a medical airlift around 1:30 this morning from Banks Crossing to Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital. He has been identified in police reports as Kenneth Daniel Jones, 24 years old, of the Sandifer Boulevard, Westminster. Oconee sheriff’s officers plan to obtain warrants for Jones’ arrest. According to an incident report, the suspicions of Deputy Clay Sheriff were raised when he saw the Chevy Blazer in a high crime and drug area in Fair Play. But the deputy’s attempt to start a traffic stop failed when the car increased its speed and disregarded a stop sign at Beaverdam Church Road and W. Pine Grove Road. A chase led into Anderson County and eventually onto the interstate highway. Oconee deputies chased the car across the lake into Georgia, where the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office took over the case. Last word received by Oconee was the car crashed and rolled over around the 150 mile marker. Among the charges Oconee officers are planning to place against Jones are failure to use signal, improper lane use, disregarding stop sign, and driving under suspension as an habitual offender.
