Check out a telescope at the local library

Microscope Oconee public libraries loan books, newspapers, magazines, DVDs and offer internet access. And soon they will be the place to check out a telescope to allow a patron to read the night sky. Early next month, library cardholders 18 or older with a valid photo ID can check out Orion StarBlast 4.5-inch telescopes. Stacie Powell, youth services librarian, says the Orion StarBlast was chosen because it’s powerful and user-friendly. This opportunity for budding astronomers was made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the State Library of South Carolina.
