Chickens in backyards at Clemson?

Should Clemson join other cities such as Greenville and Columbia and allow its residents to keep a limited number of chickens. It’s an issue in the university town for which the city is seeking the opinions of its residents. Some Clemson residents have approached their city for permission, but concerns about backyard chickens include noise and odor. Proponents, however, see backyard chickens as a source of fresh, local eggs and compost. They also provide non-chemical pest control and free garden tilling as they forage for insects. Two weeks ago, about 30 people attended a presentation by Dr. Mickey Hall of Clemson University that focused on small flocks of backyard chickens.
