Church safety meetings are available

Worship safety meetings are available in Oconee County. Those meetings can help congregations protect themselves and their property. Sgt. Mike McGowan of the Oconee Sheriff’s Office is available to come to a place of worship to make a safety assessment. In a reference to what happened this week at a Charleston church, McGowan said, “While we are not trying to create a sense of panic, we wanted to issue another release to make congregations aware that this service is available to them.” During the meetings, McGowan goes over issues that may arise—-from active shooters to how to protect property and buildings from being damaged.
