Citizens group declares victory

A citizens group that fought to stop Pioneer Rural Water from building a treatment plant inside a Lake Hartwell residential area has proclaimed victory after mobilizing about two and a half years ago. The coalition Stop Pioneer Now has declared its work complete, after being assured by state authorities that a final, revised permit requires Pioneer Rural Water to build the plant a few miles away inside the county’s Golden Corner Commerce Park on highway 59. Pioneer Rural Water’s original proposed location would have placed the plant on Tugaloo Heights Road, on property that the coalition says has now been zoned lake residential.
