Citizenship and Immigration Test required next year

Whether a student is a citizen or not, the taking of a U-S Citizenship and Immigration Test will be a requirement for freshmen classes at Oconee high schools starting next year.  Ginger Hopkins, assistant superintendent for instruction, says the test becomes a requirement starting with the 2016-17 year.  While students are not required to meet a minimum score, the county district will be obligated to report the percentage of students who pass the test.  Hopkins says the decision to require the test results from legislation at the state level.
