Clemson planner addresses the future for two highway arteries

A building boom in Clemson appears to be corresponding with increasing traffic back ups in the university town.  At the request of 101.7/WGOG NEWS, the director of university planning, Gerald Vander Mey, addressed what’s ahead for two artery roads and rumors associated with them.  Highway 93—the Walter Cox Boulevard—is one of several state roads that are now being managed by the university.  One rumor has a section of 93, from the President’s house to the Esso Club, being converted to a two-lane highway.  But Vander Mey says, “It will remain a 4 lane road, and in time this front door to the University will be improved for even better vehicular and pedestrian safety and service.”  Another rumor centers on potential changes to Perimeter Road.  Vander Mey said, “Perimeter Road is also an important corridor for the campus, but there are no specific plans to widen the two-lane roadway section at this time.  Part of Perimeter Road now accommodates four lanes of traffic.
