Co-defendant turns State’s evidence

A co-defendant who turned State’s evidence testified in Oconee General Sessions Court against the man with whom she was arrested last summer when the police pushed open a guest’s room door at Seneca’s Town and Country Motel. The police, armed with a search warrant, arrested and charged the two people inside the room with drug offenses. The State went to trial today against Dan Lavert Temple, charged with possession of a controlled substance second degree and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine third offense. The second person charged, Crystal Dawn Henry, testified that, although she had been subpoenaed by the prosecution, she was happy to testify against Temple, her former boyfriend, when she realized he was trying to pin the rap on her. She said, “I’m not going down for someone else.” Henry denied to Temple’s attorney that she was testifying against his client out of consideration for a promise of leniency when it came to resolving the charges against her. She insisted that no one had promised her anything.
