“Code Red” declared at school and arrest made

The West-Oak Middle principal told the police school personnel were forced to physically escort a mother from a hallway to the office Wednesday morning when the mother refused their command to stop.  West-Oak Middle went to a “Code Red”—indicating a situation of imminent danger.  Laverne Marie Bennett was arrested and charged with disturbing schools and entering premises after warning.  According to an Oconee Sheriff’s Office report, Bennett had gone to the school to try to see her children, but the arrest was made after school authorities determined that the mother was under a court order not to have any contact with the children.  A few years ago, Bennett was arrested as part of a child custody dispute and was apprehended at an Idaho rest stop in the company of her four young daughters.
