‘Coffee with a Cop’ next week

The next ‘Coffee with a Cop’ in Oconee County may take on more importance in light of incidents across the country in which policemen have been shot and, at times, policemen have been accused of shooting unarmed individuals. All community members and the public are invited to attend at 8 o’clock Wednesday morning, January 28 at the Westminster Depot on East Main Street. The event, sponsored by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office, provides a chance for community members to ask questions and learn more about how the Sheriff’s Office works in Oconee County neighborhoods. Most contact between law enforcement and the public takes place during emergencies or emotional situations. Those situations are not always ideal to build relationships and give rise to the false notion that officers are unapproachable on the street. ‘Coffee with a Cop’ breaks down barriers and allows for relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
