Colts coach Pagano diagnosed with leukemia

The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday that their rookie head coach, Chuck Pagano, has been diagnosed with leukemia. The Colts said Pagano — who turns 52 today — has been hospitalized for treatment and would likely not return to full coaching duties this season. Filling in on an interim basis will be offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. Pagano’s physician, Dr. Larry Cripe, said the coach will be treated with chemotherapy and drugs. He wouldn’t discuss survival rates for patients with the form of leukemia Pagano has, saying only, “The goal of the treatment is to cure the disease. That means that he’s returned to a fully functional life, the life that he worked so hard to earn and he’s looking forward to leading the Colts to some Super Bowls.”
