Seneca Woman’s Club Hosts Watercolor Show
For the first time, the
traveling exhibit from South Carolina’s Watermedia Society will visit Seneca.
In conjunction with BRAC’s POP Artists
Exhibit, it will be open to the public at the Seneca Woman’s Club’s Historic
Ballenger House until the end of May.
Of the 185 entries that
were submitted by society members statewide, the juror, John T. Salminen,
selected 70 paintings for the original exhibition. Of those selected, 26% of the
exhibition features work by members who have never been selected before or who
just earned their Member With Excellence signature status (juried into 3 SCWS
exhibitions). The top thirty paintings have received $9,500 in awards and are
touring the state for a year.
Works included in the
show feature a number of local artists from Seneca and the surrounding areas as
well as some well-known Greenville artists. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming
information on the show with times of receptions and participating artists.

WAR
BONDS
A Memorial Day event for veterans and all Americans.
Saturday night, May 17, 7 pm. Tickets TBA.
A musical journey through a war that redefined the world.
This multi-media living history cabaret is interspersed with personal letters
from the front and headline news of the period. The production is a warm
reminiscence and a harrowing reminder of a time when the whole world seemed
upside down.
Award winning artists David zum Brunnen and Serena Ebhardt fill the stage with
wartime memories and tunes. Actual veterans stories create a sentimental journey
back through the days when blackouts and rationing were a small sacrifice in
order to obtain freedom. A time when Rosie the Riveter discovered she could take
care of herself; a time when African-Americans, who were segregated at home,
integrated abroad to became heros; and when a man's only wish was to be home for
Christmas. WAR BONDS: The Songs and Letters of World War II explores the dark
side of war and the strange juxtaposition of the light hearted, popular tunes of
the time. Musical Director, Julie Florin recreates a nostalgic score of familiar
tunes. Twenty-two songs of the period lift the mood -- even as the atrocities of
war are described. This family show allows the "greatest generation" to
celebrate, as the next "greatest generation" contemplates. All veterans will be
honored.

Everyone is invited to join in celebrating Newry’s
Anniversary!
The Newry Folk Festival will again be held this year
from 10am until 4pm.
The festival is presented by the Oconee Heritage Center and
the Newry Village Community.
Festivities include craft vendors,
musical entertainment, food and much more.
One additional feature
this year will be a banjo, fiddle and guitar competition from 2:00 – 3:00pm on
the main stage. The competition will include a youth (ages 14 and under) and
adult category for each instrument. Contestants may register the day of the
festival or pre-register at the Oconee Heritage Center.
June the 14th marks the 114th
anniversary of the Newry Mill.
Newry is located approximately one mile from Rochester
Highway near Seneca, SC. For more information including vendor applications,
please contact the Oconee Heritage Center at (864) 638-2224 or visit
