Congressman pushes energy exploration

Congressman Jeff Duncan repeated his view today that offshore energy exploration can help secure America’s energy needs—as well as create jobs and financial benefits for South Carolina. As a member of the Natural Resources Committee, Duncan says he wants to find out what’s out there—referring to the potential for gas deposits in ocean bordering the mid and south Atlantic states. If those deposits are found and garnered, Duncan predicts South Carolina can expect 37.5% royalties, or revenue sharing, for the Palmetto State. It would be money, he said, that the state legislature could apply to the state’s crumbling roads and aging bridges. For one, State Representative Bill Whitmire agrees. The Walhalla Republican said he signed a House-passed resolution years ago in favor of exploration.
