Deputies and investigators are investigating a major copper theft at the construction site for the new Walhalla High, on SC 11 in Picket Post community. The crime occurred sometime between 6 p-m yesterday and 6 this morning. Targeted were storage trailers and their copper wire and tubing. Though no dollar amount was immediately available, Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said the take appears to have been substantial. It’s the second time since last year that the work site has been struck by copper thieves. In October, thieves took copper from the walls in a part of the new building. Crenshaw says some of that copper was recovered. If you have information on the crimes, contact Crime Stopper at 638-STOP.
