Corn growers lok for fresh start in 2016

South Carolina corn growers escaped the wrath of the epic rainfall of last October, but the damage had already been done.  Before that brutal storm, a severe summer drought and heat wave scorched cornfields throughout most of the state.  Farmers lost tens of millions of dollars, thousands of acres of planted corn were destroyed and much of the corn that did survive produced disappointing yields and quality.  According to Clemson University, pond-sized pools of standing water remain on cornfields more than three months after the storm.  If they don’t recede in time for planting season, a lot of valuable acreage will be unusable.
