Council votes, then clarifies its action

Oconee County Council cast a final vote last night and then found itself clarifying the implications of its action.  To the pleasure of farm community supporters, the council freed up money to apply to the purchase of 123 property belonging to the Patillo company.  But, as made clear by three of the councilmen, the money will simply be enough to buy the property.  It’s now going to be incumbent to find ways to other money to build what’s to be a permanent home for the Foothills Heritage Fair and other agricultural events.  One councilman, Reg Dexter, said farmers he has spoken to are in favor of the land purchase, but have not indicated their support for a tax increase to pay for the building.
