County attains a “4” rating for fire protection

County officials say there is substantial money to be saved by those who pay home and business insurance premiums—the result of a new fire service rating covering all of Oconee County. The Insurance Services Offices, after a visit last spring, assigned a rating of four on a scale of 1 to 10, with the lower number the better. The classification covers every home and business in un-incorporated areas that are within five miles of a fire station. County Administrator Scott Moulder says policyholders should contact their insurance agents to see if they qualify for lower cost premiums. A community’s protection rating depends on criteria such as fire alarm and communications systems, including telephones, dispatching, fire department equipment, staffing, training, geographical location, and water supply system.
