Court showdown looms July 1

The long-running dispute between Seneca and a downtown building owner is making its way back to a courtroom. The next showdown between the city and the Rev. Efford Haynes is set July 1 in the Municipal Court. In this proceeding, Seneca attorneys will motion for an order and rule to show cause why Haynes should not be held in contempt for his alleged failure to obey a previous order by Judge Danny Singleton. Since 2010, Seneca and Haynes have wrangled back and forth about the condition of the large building bordering N. Depot Street, between the blocks of Main and N. First. In olden days, the building was the headquarters for the Harper’s 5 and 10 chain that operated stores in the Carolinas and Georgia.
