Courthouse Inn deadline extended

Oconee County Council will allow the developers who proposed converting the former courthouse into a boutique-type hotel a few more weeks. Council’s action last night means that John Powell and Jim Carswell have until September 16 to secure the financing that, so far, has eluded them. Though he made clear he was not seeking an extension of old courthouse lease, Powell raised hopes for his project last week when he said that he had a contact with a lender in North Georgia who was interested.
