Covidien closing plans explained to suppliers

Just because Covidien is closing its Seneca plant doesn’t mean the plant’s suppliers are out of luck. Over the next three years, work on all products made by the Seneca plant is being moved to the Central America country of Costa Rica. Megan Mulusky, operations controller for Covidien’s vascular therapies in Marshfield, Massachusetts, says, “Our project team will implement a careful transfer of products during the coming months, and I expect that our commitments to customers will be maintained with the same level of excellent quality and service they have come to expect from Covidien.” In a mailing to Covidien’s Seneca suppliers, the question of whether products now supplied to the Seneca plant will continue to be required, the answer given is that this will be evaluated on a product-by-product basis. And, as far as whether local companies may continue to supply, Covidien says it will work with each supplier on an individual basis. The three-year closing of the Seneca plant and the elimination of nearly 600 jobs there was recently announced by the company.
