Creating a fourth county park easier said than done

The executive director of FOLKS—Friends of Lake Keowee—-thinks the time is right for Oconee County to move on acquiring Duke Energy’s Fall Creek access area to make it the county’s fourth county park.  Before the council last night, Ben Turetsky described Duke as weary over litter and other crimes that plague the popular Lake Keowee access area near Salem.  According to Turetsky, Duke pays extra for security to police the area.  While agreeing with the idea of Fall Creek as a county park, Council Chairman Wayne McCall admitted frustration for a lack of support and cooperation in the effort.  Part of the concern in the area is the danger of swimmers drowning or jumping to their deaths at the place called “Jumping Off Rock.”
