Crenshaw statement on pool

Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw issued the following statement today to 96.3/WGOG NEWS on the possibility that prisoners will be directed to help return the Walhalla Swimming Pool to working order: “In reference to the inmate labor issue for the Walhalla City Pool, I have heard anywhere from 10 to 20 inmates being used and housed at our jail. If asked, we can only accommodate up to approximately eight at this time due to our space limitations. As far as the liability, inmate labor is covered under the local government’s worker’s compensation, should an injury occur. Our role will be to house the state inmates while they are here and making sure they are properly supervised. Bob Busch, retired jail director, has been approved by DOC as being able to assist in the supervision.”
