Crowd calls for justice for Hammond

Cries of justice for Zachary Hammond were heard this afternoon in Seneca.  By a rough 101.7/WGOG NEWS count, about 100 people attended a rally in downtown Seneca organized by the group “Put Down The Guns Now Young People Organization.”  Group leader Jack Logan called for criminal charges against the Seneca policeman who fatally shot Hammond the night of July 26 in the parking lot of Hardee’s Restaurant.  Logan led the call for the state Law Enforcement Division to release a video tape.  “….there was another way to solve this situation outside of taking the life of a 19-year old child,” he told the rally.  Hammond’s mother, Angie, said she questions the police version of the moments leading to the shooting and said it’s time to release the video.  The video is believed to be in the hands of SLED, which is investigating what happened.  Logan registered his disappointment that no one from Seneca city government attended the rally, but he thanked Sheriff Mike Crenshaw and Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott for calling Zachary Hammond’s parents to express condolences.  T-shirts emblazoned with “Justice for Zach” were distributed during the rally.
