Clemson campus police arrested a student Monday on a charge of carrying or displaying firearms in public buildings or adjacent areas. A university announcement states Brandon Lee Bechtler, 18, of Edgemoor, S-C, was arrested just before midnight on the felony charge because of a handgun in the glove compartment of his truck on campus. According to the arrest warrant, Bechtler told the officer about the weapon during a search of the vehicle. The freshman engineering major was also charged with simple possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. He was released on a personal recognizance bond.
