Danger for fire remains high

The danger for wildfire remains high today within the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina.  To better combat the spread of old fires and the start of new ones, National Forest officials have placed them all under the umbrella of one incident commander. Additional cres have arrived to assist in suppressing the fires from California, New Mexico, Michigan, Minnesota, Florida and Oregon.  One of those fires, the Jones Gap fire, has resulted in the closing of an area between Highlands and Franklin for use as a helicopter dip site.
