Dietterick warns: “This will cripple your cities”

In the opinion of Greg Dietterick, state legislation that is friendly to big business would be counter-productive to small business and cripple the livelihood of Seneca and other South Carolina municipalities.  The Seneca city administrator says he spent parts of two days conferring with the South Carolina Municipal Association about House bills 3650 and 3651, sponsored by Seneca Representative Bill Sandifer.  Last night Dietterick attempted to rally opposition and asked the mayor and council to call members of the legislature.  “This bill is to cut back on your business license fees,” Dietterick told the mayor and council….What he is recommending is to give a tax reduction for big business, to the telecommunications companies, for the Dukes (of the world),) for the big businesses by  25%.”  Dietterick’s Westminster counterpart, Chris Carter, complained last week to Oconee state lawmakers that the bill could make a serious dent in cities’ ability to raise revenue, but Sandifer told him there’s little to worry about.
